Biodiversity
Industrial societies’ promotion of genetically modified crops causes biodiversity to be lost because of a heavy reliance on monoculture. Monocultures or monocropping only produces one type of crop, and uses a large land area season after season (Onorati 2012). The reasoning for this is to produce high crop yields, in doing so diversity is diminished. A loss in biodiversity damages the ecosystem by endangering species and causing a loss of natural resources (Norris 2008).
